Things to do in Vienna
Imperial architecture, café culture, and one of Europe's most walkable historic cores — the Innere Stadt (1st district) puts Stephansdom, Hofburg, and the Staatsoper inside a 15-minute radius. Neubau (7th district) is a calmer, more characterful base with independent design shops and the Naschmarkt on the doorstep; Leopoldstadt across the Danube canal offers sharper pricing with U-Bahn into the centre in 10 minutes. Christmas markets (late November through December) and the Vienna Opera Ball season (February) are the largest price spikes. Vienna is genuinely affordable for a Western capital — a central 4-star midweek can be had for £90/night outside congress weeks. Vienna Airport (VIE) connects to Wien Mitte in 16 minutes on the City Airport Train; the S7 suburban train is half the price and only 10 minutes slower.
